Riki Sharma joins Columbia Road

Patricia Åkerman

Head of Marketing & Communications

riki-profileHi Riki, How did you get good at what you do?

I have a vocational qualification in business IT and I’m also a few courses short of a Bachelor in Business Administration (IT).

Where have you earned your spurs?

I’ve always been interested in full stack development and I’ve been part of countless hobby projects with my friends. At the information security company Trusteq I was responsible for web service development and intranet, while at digital solutions consultancy Knowit I did web development and focused more on usability, which opened up a whole other spectrum into development and made me a usability inspection methods fan. Currently my passion lies with creating services that will support the needs of a wider audience.

Why Columbia Road?

I’d previously applied to more traditional IT houses, but when I found out about Columbia Road I felt that this company’s goals aligned so well with mine that I decided to apply. I think the main difference with us and other IT companies is that we work so closely with the clients, thus understand their needs better, which makes it easier for us support the client’s business goals. Also, ecommerce is a major interest for me and I dream of my own webshop – no better place to learn!

Sampo, what will make our clients love Riki?

“Riki shows talent in many areas of ecommerce development, but I’m most excited about his specialisation is usability. One thing that we really need to pay more attention to is making webshops usable and accessible for a wider audience, and having an expert like Riki on board is a great asset for us,” says Sampo Hämäläinen, Managing Partner.

What makes your heart beat a little faster?

I’m quite creative and love to paint and draw. Recently I’ve been interested in capturing nature and landscapes on film and canvas. I do read a lot and spent a lot of time online, which I think has nurtured my interest in typography. Essentially 90% of web design is typography and I confess to being somewhat of a kerning geek, nonetheless, it’s all tightly connected to usability and equality.
