Coming from a research oriented department, one learns to base everything on data. From working in government bureau, one learns that there’s always a simpler way to do things. Meet Samu Tamminen, a data junkie joining our team of developers.

Samu studies Computer Science at the University of Helsinki, a leading unit in its field based on international rankings. He’s graduating as a Bachelor of Science this week, so congratulations are in order!

After high school and during his non-military service, Samu worked at the Finnish Immigration Service as a department secretary responsible for data collection and legal preparations for councils. He quickly noticed that many thing could be automatised and digitised to make processes easier and faster, which inspired him to go study computer science.

Before joining us Samu studied in Lyon at the Institut National des Sciences Appliques for a year. He spent his time delving deeper into web development, mobile networks and data communications. He also got excited about data mining, which he hopes to study further later on.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Columbia Road so far. I’ve learned a lot about how to become more customer and user-centric in web development and I think that’s a key differentiator from any other company I’ve talked to. At Columbia Road everything we do is validated with customer needs and our focus is on building things that actually add value to our and their customers,” says Samu.

“Samu is a great addition to our team and brings with him an understanding of data utilisation, which we can refine for ecommerce purposes. He’s definitely a very data-driven and goal-oriented web-developer, a right fit for us,” says Lauri Eloranta, Managing Partner at Columbia Road.

When Samu is not working or in school he likes to do a lot of sports, especially basketball. What Samu loves about basketball is that it’s a strategic game that is at its best when the team uses tactics to play together towards a win. We think this ideology sums up Samu quite nicely; He’s a team player who plans before he does, and bases decisions on information.
