Fredrik_Burman_expHi Fredrik, How did you get good at what you do?

By having a curious mind, often stepping out of my comfort zone and most importantly having the opportunity to work together with awesome people. That's what has helped me grow and develop myself both as a person and my professional skills.

Where have you earned your spurs?

I’ve spent the better part of my career in the financial industry working for Swedbank, where I started out working as a UNIX sys admin (back in the days when you built and managed your own data centers). Over the years moved into product and business development within electronic Foreign Exchange. 

Later I took another step out of my comfort zone and jumped into the Stockholm startup scene by founding my own company where me and my co-founder built and launched multiple products that were able to get paying customers.

All of this has helped me build quite a weird toolbox where I have a solid foundation of IT infrastructure, full stack web development, project, product and business development as well as an understanding of how to run your own business.

Why Columbia Road?

When I first heard about Columbia Road I thought it sounded too good to be true: A flat hierarchy with the possibility to help make an impact both for the company and even more importantly for the interesting clients that Columbia Road works with. This was what stood out to me initially. 

Then I learned that Columbia Road wants to deliver value to their clients directly, by using the tools that the clients themself already use. That’s something that I really enjoy and it’s a mindset that I’ve had for most of my career. I guess there's a famous quote out there that sums it up quite well “getting sh*t done since 2016!”

What makes your heart beat a little faster?

Having a wife and two kids means that I don’t have much free time to do the things I love other than hanging out with them. I found Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) a couple of years ago and this has really helped me to get mental relaxation while getting some good physical exercise at the same time. The days where I start the morning with BJJ are usually the most productive days of the week.
