rory-profile.jpg Rory is a true polyglot when it comes to programming. He’s fluent in object-oriented languages such as C++ and Java as well as high level and functional languages such as Haskell and Scala. But what sealed the deal for us was that Rory is a person who is always looking for ways to put himself outside of his comfort zone, which works as a major motivation factor with respect to work, and life as a whole.

Before joining us Rory has earned his Bachelor’s with Honors in Software Engineering from Swansea University and is currently studying for his Master’s in Computer Science at Aalto University. Alongside his studies he’s worked as bar supervisor in a prestigious establishment where he’s got to hone his people skills and has become a virtuoso in creating high-standard services in a timely manner.

“Working at Columbia Road gives me the opportunity to learn and improve a wide variety of skills, which was a big pull factor for me to the company. As we move further into the digital age, it’s inevitable that effective e-commerce is going to become more and more central to business practice. It’s also nice that the namesake of the company is in my home country - perhaps I can help the company with giving a sense of British-ness,” Rory says with a smile.

“In addition to being an extraordinarily gifted programmer Rory is very sociable and a good communicator which so important when working in various projects and with a multitude of clients. He’s more than familiar with the Agile design philosophy, and that has not only made him slide right into our way of running projects, but also assured us he’d be a reliable and effective team member,” says Lauri Eloranta, Managing Partner of Columbia Road.

In the somewhat sparse free time Rory has after full schedules in school and Columbia Road he loves music and is a big fan of hockey (supporter of the Boston Bruins and a fan of Tappara). For Rory, Formula 1 has played a very central part in his life, since he used to live very close to Silverstone and many of the F1 teams. One could say the most coveted F1 qualities manifest in Rory; He’s fast, stays on track, is reliable and a true pioneer.
